So, I didn't have a chance to update last week because I was in a training class. Unfortunately, there weren't any openings at the place we usually get training, in London. So, was outside of Bedford in a place called Ampthill. I can't pronounce it right and I butchered the name every time I tried to say it. The whole thing kind of sucked because I just got Ray back, and then I had to be away for 4 nights. But, it was kind of cool because I got to be somewhere different. I was going to try to take pictures, but it's winter, so there just isn't enough daylight really. I did manage to get a shot of the flooded field behind the hotel, but the taxi was arriving, so I didn't manage to get any others. It was almost a vacation simply because I didn't have to get up until 7AM. And because I didn't have to sit on a train and fight crowds for 2 hours each way every day.
But, I also learned a bunch, which was really important. It kind of helps to learn about the software I support. Things started clicking into place and making sense as the week progressed.
Some things to note: Travelodge is a very discount hotel. I didn't realize this when I booked it, but I do now. Discounted as in, there is only one bar of soap for the entire week, one bath towel, 4 channels on the TV and no bathmat, no face cloth, no hair dryer and no alarm clock. All to save you money! (It's only costing £49/night). But, on the other hand, it was actually relatively clean, and they will give you all the tea you could ever want. I have stayed at far more expensive hotels that were far less clean than this one is. And it was right next door to a "Little Chef" which is a lot like Denny's, so I didn't have to worry about where to find food. Though, you have to be careful about what you order in a greasy spoon, just like in the US. (The omelet with chips turned out to be the best bet because it is freshly made rather than frozen in any way, then nuked.)
Well, I need to run as I am updating this over lunch. I've added some photos in http://picasaweb.google.com/jennifer.m.parker/AssortedUKStuff. Enjoy!
